Pull to Sit

Pulling you little one to sit is one of the first ways you can work on neck strength and head control. You can practice early and usually improves quickly in comparison to it's counterpart tummy time. Pulling to sit works the front of the neck (and the arms if not doing the modified version) while tummy time works the back of the neck and other parts of the body. They will need the strength on all sides of their neck in order to optimize head control so you don't want them to be good at this and not tummy time so make sure you practice both.

It is a fun way to play with your little one but also work on them trying to focus their eyes to look at you and react to the sound of your voice. By the time they are 4 months, you should not see their head "lag" or hang back when doing this skill with them. It will be important that they can control their head when coming up but also lowering back down to their backs as it uses their muscles differently.

Check out this video to see how to do the regular and modified versions.
